Chappee Coal Stove 8033-800

Heating technology from France. It is natural to find safe economical and efficient heating equipment being used in a country whose citizens are noted for their practical and frugal traits. In France people continued to depend upon coal and wood heaters long after the evolution of oil and gas units and these coal and wood heaters were constantly being updated and perfected. The results? Stoves that are outstanding in dependability, appearance, and performance, far superior to equipment manufactured in our own country today.

Ash Disposal
Never permit ashes to accumulate in ashpan or come in contact with the grate. Remove ashes morning and evening. Before opening doors for removal of ash and refueling, shake loose ash from burned coal into ash receptacle, wait a few seconds, open door and remove ash pan. If fire burns with difficulty or goes out, grates may need cleaning. Remove, clean, and replace, making sure pin is in place. Clinkers on grate mean air control shutter has been open too far, too long, or both. Unburned coal caught in grate bars means firebed has been shaken down too far or left unattended too long.
Cleaning
Clean thoroughly once a year. To clean firebox  #13 unfasten four screws #12 and remove box. Brush out ducts and remove soot. Carefully clean inside of the firebox #13, set back in place with asbestos cord. Clean and properly set in place. Tighten the four firebox screws.
Maintenance
Enameled exterior surfaces are always cleaned while stove is cold, never when warm. Use a dry rag and baking soda. Chrome parts and mica windows are cleaned while cold, with alcohol.
Adjustment of Hearth and Ash Receptacle Doors
These doors close hermetically by the pressure of the front plate against the asbestos gasket. After long use the asbestos tends to compress, requiring an adjustment of the door closing mechanism as follows:
  1. Open door to be adjusted and tighten screw #23.
  2. Loosen nut #26 one or two complete turns.
  3. Unscrew hex adjustment screw #24 (normally one turn is sufficient to compensate for compression of the asbestos). Tighten nut #26 against lug #25. If the adjustment is excessive, tap the asbestos cord lightly so it slips into groove in places where it may not have been properly seated.
